Privacy Policy
Privacy Policy (AKA: What We Do With Your Info, And What We Don’t)
Hey there, fellow traveler!
At Just Ole Hutch, we’re all about sharing budget-friendly travel tips, the occasional dad joke, and maybe a life lesson or two from the road. But before you dig in, let’s talk about how we treat your personal info, because privacy matters, even more than remembering to pack clean socks.
Who We Are
You’re visiting: https://justolehutch.com
And yep, it’s run by me, Hutch. Just one guy, one keyboard, and too many coffee refills.
What Info We Collect (And Why We Bother)
📨 Newsletter Subscriptions
When you sign up for my newsletter (which is full of travel hacks and friendly banter), I collect:
Your email address
Your name (if you feel like sharing it)
Your newsletter preferences
Why?
So I can send you tips, updates, and maybe a chuckle or two. Plus, I track how those emails perform to see what’s hitting the mark.
Good to know: You can unsubscribe any time by clicking that little link at the bottom of any email. No hard feelings, I promise.
💬 Comments on the Blog
Leave a comment? First off, thank you! You’re part of what keeps this site alive and kicking. We collect:
The info you enter into the comment form
Your IP address and browser info (to fend off the spam bots)
A hashed version of your email (for Gravatar, if you use it)
Once your comment is approved, your friendly face (or chosen avatar) shows up next to it for the world to see.
💸 Affiliate Links
Yep, some links on this site are affiliate links. That means:
If you click a link and buy something, I might make a small commission (at no extra cost to you)
The affiliate partner may track your visit using cookies
Their privacy policy applies too
I always try to mark affiliate links clearly, and I only recommend stuff I trust. If you click, you’re saying “Sure, I’m cool with that.”
📱 Social Media Stuff
We’re on Facebook and maybe a few other spots. If you click one of those social icons or interact with embedded content:
The platform may track your activity
Your interactions might be visible to others
Their privacy policy kicks in, not mine
🖼️ Uploading Media
If you upload images to the site (for any reason), leave out location data (GPS coordinates). Otherwise, someone might figure out where you took that sunset selfie.
🍪 Cookies (Not the Tasty Kind)
Here’s what cookies do on this site:
Save your name/email/comment info (so you don’t have to retype it next time)
Handle logins, screen settings, and post-editing
Some cookies last a day, some a year, depending on what you do here
If you’re not into cookies, you can adjust your browser settings to decline them. Totally up to you.
Third-Party Services We Use
We work with a few folks behind the scenes, like:
MailerLite (for newsletters): Tracks email opens/clicks. [Add their privacy policy link]
Social platforms: Like Facebook, if you interact with posts or links
Affiliate partners: Who may use tracking cookies when you click links
Each of these services has its own privacy policy, and you might want to give those a quick glance if you’re curious.
Embedded Content
Sometimes I include YouTube videos, Instagram posts, or other content from other websites. If you interact with them, it’s like you visited that site directly, and they may track your behavior.
Who We Share Your Data With
Short answer? Only when necessary.
Newsletter stuff goes to our email provider
Affiliate clicks go to affiliate partners
Social interactions stay with the social platforms
And that’s it. No shady data sales. Ever.
How Long We Keep Stuff
Newsletter info: Until you unsubscribe
Comments: Forever (unless you ask us to delete them)
User profiles (if applicable): Until you ask for deletion
Your Rights (Yes, You’ve Got Some)
You can:
Ask what info we’ve got on you
Fix it if it’s wrong
Ask us to delete it
Say “no thanks” to how we use it
Request a copy or transfer of your data
Just send me a note at Hucth@justolehutch.com if you want to do any of that.
Where Your Data Goes
Comment data may be run through a spam detection service. Otherwise, it stays right here where it belongs.
Updates to This Policy
We may update this from time to time, probably when we remember or when the law changes. The latest version will always be right here.
